I had high expectations, given my exposure to Marino through AD and because of enthusiastic reviews in various publications.....also because of the price of $53US. If one is seeking a heavy tome for the coffee table, fine, but if one is seeking a product for inspiration or information or guidance......nothing. Some of the photos are blurred/filtered (for arts sake), there is very little text and what text there is, is placed on the bottom left hand side of a page with the rest of the page blank. Had I not thrown out the packaging, I would have returned the book to Amazon as unsatisfactory.
This book was different from what I expected. It is more a garden book than a Peter Marion-design book, since it has many pictures of the plants in close-up rather than the overall design. However, it is wonderful to see the work of artist Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne in an actual garden setting and not inside a gallery or house. Overall a very nice coffee table book.
I'm a fan of Peter Marino but his garden design is not what I expected of him as a modernist. Great cover photo. Wish there were more like this.
