I love the humor of the author. The "cures" for some of the critters are outdated/off the market due to government regulations. If that is the main purpose for buying this book you might want to look to newer material. I thoroughly enjoy the read.

Peter Carroll was the first author I read who made magic magical and one of the few whose writings have repaid close repeated reading. Carroll is to be congratulated for writing this book and Mandrake for publishing it. The Apophenion is a gold mine of Carrollisms, and I could cite a score or more, even if few of the insights are original and some have been phrased more elegantly. That said, their power is undiminished and their application to magical working as timely as ever. No one with the slightest interest in magical theory should miss this book.Much of the work is a description of Carrollian physics. I know barely enough physics to keep my tires inflated and not a whit more, so any attempt by me to evaluate "the maths" would be idiocy in its most literal sense. Indeed, I can barely even picture the simplest of Peter's demonstrations and I suspect I have a great deal of company. If you figure yourself among the numerically disabled, be warned. It may well be that Peter Carroll is the Giordano Bruno of our era and that he has demonstrated the elusive physics of magic, and if so, I am exuberantly pleased if ultimately quite unenlightened in spite of it. I'm just saying...The artwork: first rate cover and the Muses (pg 112) are suitable for framing.Two quibbles: either the proof reading of the book or the software used to compose it is deplorable. There are there are annoying repetitions of repetitions of words and the punctuation occasionally appears derived from an alien-as-in-not-of-this-world grammar.

after checking this book out of the library, I knew I wanted to own it. Turn to it regularly to make dinner more interesting. Especially love the ways recipes can be improvised upon

I love that this is an updated collection of sauces and even better, there are recipes for everyone from vegans to hard core meat eaters. Great pictures and inventiveness that works, not just for effect. I LOVE this : TURNING WHOLE FOODS INTO SAUCES WITHOUT ADDING THICKENERS, both savory and sweet (fruit). And then there's, The Three Fundimentals of sauce Making. This is not just a recipe book, it's a How To class with a plethora of information to help us get it right. Love it! Thank you Susan for being a perfectionist!

This is the one sauce reference you won't want to be without. This volume will go on the shelf next to my other splattered and well loved references. Should be in every young cook's armamentarium.

I like the fact that sauces are made accessible. The basics and base sauces are explained and the cook is allowed the flexibility to adapt based on their needs. This is the book's strength.However, this book is pretty deficient on Asian based sauces. For example, for the Thai Coconut Curry sauce, an ingredient used is Thai Red curry paste. For me, I want the real deal from scratch first. Then show me the shortcut. Another example is the Hoisin Barbeque Sauce which calls for 1/2 cup Hoisin sauce as one of the ingredients. The book never explains how to make Hoisin sauce. I needed to browse the internet to find some basics for this.

This book earned 5 stars because the quality of the information and the presentation of the material exceeded my expectations. I had looked through the book briefly at a book store before making the purchase, so I was aware of what it consisted of. However, I was still surprised by how conclusive and detailed the book is.The artwork in the book is clear and detailed. The book is quite hefty, but you should be able to take it with you just about anywhere. It could fit easily into a backpack without feeling awkward.I would recommend this book to anyone who loves words and their meanings and has a mind for minutiae.

As a retired old guy, this is what I need to refresh my memory for common things long forgotten. It's embarrassing to struggle to find common words in conversation, but this is a real help to re-establish memories of words to things I learned 40 or 50 years ago, but haven't referenced during my working life. This book really has driven home the fact I, old person, needs to re-educate myself.

This is a great book either for an adult or for a kid who likes to learn. Items in the book are very well illustrated and are separated by topic. The images used are then labeled and broken down with definitions given for each of the parts. This book is a lot of fun. My only suggestion is that if you are in need of an actual dictionary, I would recommend just getting one, as this book can be challenging to find the word you might be looking for, plus, it does not seem to have many difficult words.

This Visual Dictionary is perfect for people learning English. I have a community conversational English class and each of my students ordered a book to help them better understand specific details. One student used information contained to help him obtain a job, another used it when taking their vehicle to be repaired. It has been very useful for teaching many topics.

I love taking this guy off the shelf and opening a random page. The illustrations are gorgeous, the descriptions concise and helpful, and the content is up-to-date. It's good value for money, too, and the kind of thing you can't easily get from a web search. English is my second language, but even native speakers may find this helpful for the occasional "what is that thingamajig called again?" question, or simply to take a closer look at how the world works. Highly recommended.

For example if somebody want to know what is a "cloud". The subject "cloud" takes a whole page on this book and explains dozens of different types of clouds. Also because of the size (pretty heavy) it is not for people who travel.
